Red Hill Digital offers a range of ebook services, from the conversion of your book into the leading ebook formats through to the distribution of ebooks into international online stores (including the Amazon Kindle Store, Sony Ebook Store, Scribd, Smashwords and many more).
We also have a New York office to manage rights on the other side of the Pacific and this also offers our clients taxation advantages over those who choose to conduct their business directly with North American etailers and distributors.
Kindle format, EPUB, Mobipocket, Adobe Digital Editions (PDF), we’re format agnostic – although we hope the industry settles on a standard post haste (EPUB anyone?).
If you own the electronic rights to your book and would like to make it available as an ebook, please give our digital team a call and we’ll chat through your requirements.
Conversion fees start at A$50 per hour with a ’standard’ trade paperback taking about 4-6 hours to process; most of that time is allocated to ensuring document formatting is retained in the conversion process. So as a guide, A$200-$300 can get you your very own digital edition.
However, if the book has a large number of images and/or unconventional interior design that you wish to maintain in the digital edition, the conversion process could take significantly longer and cost upward of A$1,000 per format.
We now outsource the conversion of digital editions. Our conversion rates range from A50 cents per page for 'standard' trade titles to A$1 per page for more complex works (those with multiple indents, various inline styles, mathematical/scientific formula, and so forth).
A note regarding conversion fees: each ebook format you choose requires its own conversion, so if you want to convert your book into epub, MobiPocket or Amazon’s proprietary AWZ format you will need to budget $50 per hour A50 cents to A$1 per page, per conversion.- How to open an ebook distribution account

- Ebook distribution account fees and charges
-
Account establishment fee1 $100
Per format placement fee2,3 $50
ISBN allocation4 $50
Distribution royalty5,6 20%
All fees and charges exclude 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST); applicable only to Australia-based businesses. All fees and charges are in Australian dollars (AUD).
1. The account establishment fee is a once only administration fee applied to setting up your account with Red Hill Digital. We do not charge annual account keeping fees.
2. We charge distribution fees on a per format basis rather than per store; given the vast number of online stores, we believe this to be the most economical solution for all parties. So by way of example: if you wanted to make your ebook available for sale in the Amazon Kindle Store (Amazon's AWZ format or MOBI), Sony ebookstore (EPUB) and on Scribd.com (PDF), you would pay a total of $150, being $50 per format. Those formats could also be distributed to the many other etailers and our account with Mobipocket reaches over 80 ebook stores, including Amazon.
3. If you request distribution services into an online store with which Red Hill Digital does not have an existing distribution agreement, we will subject such considerations to financial analysis and you may be required to pay additional fees.
4. If you do not already have an ISBN allocated to your digital editions (ebooks) you can use one of ours for a nominal fee. Otherwise, you are welcome to provide your own.
5. Per our Post-publication Distribution Agreement, you keep eighty (80) percent of net receipts received by us from our retail and distribution partners; we retain twenty (20) percent for the term of the license.
6. Net receipts vary as each store offers different deal structures. For example: Sony's Ebook Store offers a 50/50 split; Scribd.com an 80/20 split (author/store); Amazon a 35/65 split (author/store).
All fees, charges, third party royalty rates, terms and conditions are subject to change without notice except as otherwise stipulated in the PPDA. - Post-publication Distribution Agreement (PPDA)
